Composition for florals

Framing your arrangements perfectly

A delicate floral arrangement composed off-centre on a soft linen surface.

Light makes a photo possible. Composition makes it sing. A few simple framing habits will instantly lift your work.

What you’ll learn

  • Turning on your camera’s grid (iPhone & Android)
  • Using the rule of thirds to balance your arrangements
  • Finding the most flattering angle for your particular vase shape

Practice exercises

  1. 01

Activate your camera grid. Photograph your arrangement so the main focal flower rests exactly where two grid lines intersect.

  2. 02

Shoot the same arrangement from three heights — table-level, 45°, and straight overhead. Pick the one that best shows the vase silhouette.
